Vanhlanganu refers to people from where Mpumalanga, Lebombo, and Maputo meet.
Before they lost their way of life to European colonialism, they were an economic consortium of the inland, composed of Warlords, Rainmakers, Miners, Hunters, Farmers, and Artisans that ran a joint trade network on behalf of the Ronga, Mbai, and Nguni superpowers of the time. Thus, they are called Ba hlanga vo xava ndlela — people who broker deals — the trade alliance.
