Varonga (Rhonga) refers to people of the east coast.

Before the Tembe conquered the prime coastline; the Nyaka, Hlengwe, Konde, and Tshwa once held the Ronga title in its original form. This region later became the military state of the Tembe Empire in what is known today as Maputo (Mabudu, Maputsu, Mavuthu) and Northern KwaZulu-Natal. Thus, they are called Ba nonga dyambupeople of the tributary of the sun the stronghold of dawn.
