Ndzawini.
[Nds-ah-we-knee]
Ndzawini is a traditional Xitsonga greeting used when entering a homestead to announce one’s presence. It serves as an act of paying homage and can be interpreted as a salutation to the homestead and its matriarch.
The term derives from the root verbs ku ndzava and ku ndzawuta. Common variations of this greeting include Ndawini, Ndzawine, Ndzhawini, and Ndzawuwe.
