In Xitsonga culture, the bambara groundnut [ndluva, ndluwa, nyume] follows a strict taboo: it must be planted in its own thorn-fenced field, and once it sprouts, only women may enter. If a man does, tradition warns he’ll be punished and the entire crop will fail.
