Among the Batshwa nobles, Hosi Mazive is largely absent from the acclaim, yet he ruled the largest territory of Hlengweni; surpassing even that of his brother, Mantsena (Cawuke / Mavasa), the Paramount Ruler of the Hlengwe people. Mazive’s Kingdom dominated trade and political authority along the southern coast of the Save (Sabi) River from the 16th to the 17th century. Thus, they are called Ba tiva cuma — people of economics — the expert merchants.
