Vabila (Bileni/ Bilankulu) refers to people of the open fields.
They live on savannas, grasslands, and coastal regions with rich soils that appear scorched, known as xilogo (light black soil) and nyaka (black clayey soil) used in agriculture, construction, and pottery. Thus, they are called Ba mbala wa milo — people of the fertile plains — the flatlanders.
