How long is a Xitsonga week?
- The Xitsonga week is six full days, each marked by a sunrise and sunset.
- In Xitsonga tradition, the concept of a week goes beyond the standard calendar cycle. After the regular six days are completed, time continues in alignment with the renewal of the moon. These additional days are not arbitrary but are carefully named and counted. For example, mweyo (mwedo) means “completion” (the sixth day), and the days that follow are counted in sequence. The second day after completion is called mweyo na mambirhi — literally meaning “completion and two.”
