Who does “Nhancale” refer to?
In Xitsonga, Nhancale is Nyakale. ✊🏿
Why is “Nhancale” written in a foreign format?
Long ago, the surname Nyakale was changed to Nhancale by the Portuguese. Why? Because their language doesn’t have the “NY” or “K” sounds found in Xitsonga! So, they wrote it the way it sounded to them — and that’s how Nyakale became Nhancale in official documents. ✊🏿
